NEWS RELEASE – Grapevine Police have a man in custody for the murder of a woman recovered near the spillway at Grapevine Lake. 35-year-old Daniel Burch is being held for his role in causing the violent death of Jennifer Holmes of Lewisville.
Burch told Grapevine detectives that in the early morning of July 5, the close friends were arguing on the way to the lake when he pulled over on Fairway Drive. Holmes was shot multiple times. Her body was then taken to the water.
A passerby spotted Holmes’ body near the spillway on the afternoon of July 6. Grapevine Police detectives worked around the clock and discovered key evidence in the case. Once Holmes was identified on July 7, the investigation led detectives to Burch, whom Holmes had been living with at the time of her death.
Burch was interviewed by detectives and taken into custody. He is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail charged with murder. His bond is set at $150,000.
Some of the evidence in this case was discovered more than a mile away from where the victim’s body was recovered. The thorough and extensive search by detectives, patrol officers and crime scene investigators in this case demonstrates the high level of dedication and compassion Grapevine officers and personnel have for the community and victims of crime.
The Grapevine Police Department wants to thank everyone who aided in the investigation, including the Grapevine Fire Department, who also sent in a dive team to search for additional evidence, the Flower Mound Fire Department, Texas Parks & Wildlife and Army Corps of Engineers.
