An Editorial (Means my opinion) by LNO Editor Nelson Thibodeaux
The following email was forwarded to LNO. You should read this email to learn how politics have been played in Colleyville in the past…but this is NOT OUR FUTURE!
I knew of at least one business that was threatened by an incumbent council member (who lost) if he did not take down his opponent’s sign. The business was threatened to loose the business from the City of Colleyville.
Now comes the long suffering Hendersons….once upon a time riding high on the ridge under the auspices of people like Mayor Donna Arp and Joe Hocutt. Threats to local businesses were a common affair during those times.
However, living in the past, the Hendersons have now resorted to threatening to take their business elsewhere because “you chose to campaign for and support the Challengers, Nakamura, Lindamood and Newton,” and the election didn’t go their way? Maybe they will be like the entertainers who threaten to leave the country (in this case the city) if their guy doesn’t win!
Now Henderson THREATENS TO SEND HIS, “WE LOST SO I HATE YOU NOW” to all of the emails he previously came by during the election. Which consisted of a number of emails apparently heisted from charity organizations and others, without the individuals’ permission.
At the bottom of the email is a return message from Tom Aikens of Next Door; you have to love this man’s standards and his answer. I left the emails of the restaurants that Henderson referred, so those who still think this is a free country, can send your support to these local businesses and see Red Barn on Facebook.
I don’t know about you, but I fully intend to go out of my way to support these local businesses. As a citizen of Colleyville, you have a glimpse of what was wrong with “incumbent thinking” and why the “Challengers” won in a LANDSLIDE. LNO is happy to share this information with our readers to help with the understanding of who wanted to “Preserve Colleyville” versus those who claimed to be “Protecting Colleyville.” You cannot protect a city by trying to instigate a boycott against local businesses because they dared to look toward new leadership in the City where they Do Business!
Subject: Right To Choose July 8, 2016 Next Wood Fired Bistro, Sonic, Red Barn and La Hacienda
Dear Owner/Manager,
In the months leading up to the May 7th Colleyville election for Mayor and City Council, you chose to campaign for and support the Challengers, Nakamura, Lindamood and Newton, and their misinformation, half-truths and lies. That is your right. The Challengers won and they are now trying to impose their personal agenda against the majority of the Colleyville residents. Our water bills were never high (compared to our surrounding cities) and have not been reduced; TexRail is not stopped and will never be stopped as the rail line was here long before Colleyville became a city; there are no apartments in Colleyville (nor will there ever be); and, our property tax rates are one of the lowest in NE Tarrant County. It is also our right to support those businesses in Colleyville as we wish as it is your right to support any side in a campaign. You have lost loyal customers who loved the Ham, Brie & Apple Panini at Next Wood Fired Bistro. As for Sonic, we always ordered the #2 for my whole staff; at Red Barn, we ordered and loved your great ribs and at La Hacienda we loved your fajitas … but we are now seeking other Colleyville restaurants without regret.
We choose NOT to eat at your restaurants in the future and we will NOT recommend your restaurants to anyone. I assure you that this email will go to the majority of Colleyville residents which is “MY RIGHT”.
Sincerely, Mark & Pat Henderson

We now have a list of Colleyville restaurants: Sonic, Next Wood Fired Bistro & Vino Bar, Red Barn and La Hacienda that we will definitely use more often than in the past. We don’t need this kind of threats in Colleyville. These bullies are still lying and we will not be bullied by them! Thank you for sharing this piece of garbage with Colleyville Citizens.

Mr Henderson,
May I suggest you look for a good psychologist in Colleyville to frequent since you will have a little extra time on your hands. I will feel much safer now at Next, LaHacienda, & Sonic with your absence. Please publish your new haunts so I can stay clear of those.

Wow! What an entitled , spoiled sorry loser. To make such a threat because his family didn’t get his way & now wants to have a temper tantrum until he does. Can only assume what a person of this character would be like trying to run our city.
I am now encouraged to dine in those places mentioned as often as my family, friends & associates are able to. Much respect to Mr. Aikens for his response & not cowering to this juvenile and insulting threat.

Well, they’re correct it is their right to take their business elsewhere. And it’s mine to especially seek out the restaurants in this article! They all have fantastic food and it will be my pleasure!

Is this the same Mark Henderson that is CEO and founder of the Asset Preservation Group?
His profile states he serves on the board of directors for Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce…. The same chamber that is supposed to PROMOTE Colleyville…..however the chambers website does not list him so I’m not sure if it’s the same…
I support my local businesses any chance I get, I don’t take threats well either.
I especially support them if they happen to be a customer of mine! Thanks for your business Von!

To the best of my knowledge he has previously been on the Colleyville Area Chamber of Commerce. Of course, under the auspices of Ret Stansburger for many years, the Chamber was a hot bed of political intrigue and favors for a select few; of which the Hendersons were followers.
