Single Person Fatality Crash
GRAPEVINE, Texas – Grapevine Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that killed a 77-year-old Grapevine man.
At approximately 1:15 pm on Wednesday, January 3, Grapevine Police responded to 9-1-1 calls about a car that crashed into an underpass support pillar on westbound E SH-114 under the Texan Trail overpass.
Callers advised that bystanders were able to remove the driver from the vehicle and had begun CPR. Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the patient to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine. Despite lifesaving efforts by all involved, the driver was pronounced deceased at 1:46 pm.
The crash also caused damage to a section of guardrail and a light pole. The roadway was closed for just over an hour while traffic officers investigated the accident and crews worked to repair the damage and clear the debris. No other vehicles were involved.
Traffic investigators determined that the driver left the roadway to the right, impacted the guardrail and light pole, and then hit the support pillar of the overhead railroad bridge. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The medical examiner will release the driver’s name pending contact with the next of kin.
