COLLEYVILLE POLICE ARRESTS BURGLARY SUSPECT AFTER 5-HOUR SEARCH
On Saturday, February 25, 2023, at approximately 5:39am, Colleyville Police Officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of Montclair Drive about a suspicious person who was walking around with a flashlight looking into vehicles. Officers did not locate the subject.
Around 6:49am, NETCOM Dispatch received additional calls about a suspicious person walking in a neighbor’s yard in the 5200 block of Coventry Ct. and looking into vehicles. The subject was dressed in all black and had a backpack; this description closely matched a burglary suspect on security video from another Colleyville neighborhood the previous week.
Soon after officers responded to this area, a subject matching the above description was seen by Officers running through a vacant lot on Bluebonnet Dr., and was reported jumping fences between homes in Stonecrest Estates, Montclair Parc, and Chelsea Park neighborhoods. Officers secured a perimeter at this time.
Officers found a discarded backpack in the area the suspect was seen running; it contained ammunition, a pistol, and burglary tools. Southlake Police K9, Duco, obtained a scent from the backpack, and just before 12:00pm, Southlake Officer Anderson and K9 Duco located the suspect in the 5100 block of Camelot Drive and he was taken into custody with multiple Officers present. The arrestee was a 32-year-old black male, and we continue to work through this investigation, including his ties to other crimes.
Colleyville Police Chief, Michael C. Miller, said, “I am proud of the hard work and perseverance that all of the involved officers put into bringing this suspect into custody. We would like to thank these agencies for providing their resources to the cause, from additional Officers, to K9s and drones: Grapevine PD, Euless PD, Southlake DPS, Trophy Club PD, Hurst PD, Bedford PD, and NETCOM Dispatch. These relationships are crucial during an incident of this magnitude. We would also like to thank our Colleyville residents for heeding our precautions, and reporting suspicious activity when it happened, we couldn’t do it without them!”
If anyone in this area finds they were the victim of a related crime, or they have video footage during the incident, please contact our non-emergency line at 817-743-4522.
