With the rising temperatures these past few days, you are probably looking for ways to beat the heat!
- Stay hydrated – water is vital for body function and makes up about 60% of our body weight. Staying hydrated improves endurance and reduces fatigue.
- Maintain a light diet – eating salads with high water fruits and vegetables will both hydrate and be easy on your digestive system.
- Don’t heat your oven – try outdoor cooking.
- Keep the lights off and pull the shades – this will help keep your home cooler and be less taxing on your A/C.
- Unplug all appliances and electronics you are not using – these generate heat, unplugging will help reduce your energy bill, as well.
- Utilize those ice packs that just rest in our freezers. Pets love these, as well.
- Use an old fashion fan to blow over a bowl of ice – it’s old school, but it works.
- Save your workouts for early morning or in the evenings – OK in this heat, who are we kidding – you are probably still going to get hot, but the temps are lower during those periods.
- Stay indoors – limit exposure to the sun.
- Wear loose, light colored clothing and a hat when outdoors.
- Avoid alcohol and high sugar drinks. OK … again we know, but moderation is a good thing in this heat!
- Watch the weather – stay informed!
