MULTI-AGENCY RESPONSE TO ARMED SUSPECT IN COLLEYVILLE
On Friday, March 29, 2024, the Dallas Police Fugitive Unit was surveilling a possible aggravated robbery suspect as part of an ongoing investigation when that suspect led Dallas Police into the city of Bedford. Just before 10:30am, Dallas Police contacted Bedford Police for assistance with a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle. Bedford Officers located the suspect driving in their city and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
At approximately 10:31am, Colleyville Police were dispatched to Brentwood Drive to assist an outside agency. Colleyville Officers were advised a driver did not yield when Bedford Police initiated a traffic stop. The driver continued to flee from Officers into the cul de sac of Brentwood Court. The subject then exited his vehicle and had a pistol in his hand, but he was not pointing it, or discharging it, at anyone.
Colleyville Officers and Bedford Officers kept the subject contained. NETCOM Dispatch contacted nearby residents to stay inside their homes and lock their doors, and a CodeRed alert was sent to nearby residents as well. Due to this subject being an aggravated robbery suspect, multiple SWAT Teams with negotiators responded to the location, in addition to outside agency drone operators, a K-9 Officer, air support, and other resources.
After almost 3 hours of negotiations, the North Tarrant Regional SWAT Team used a non-lethal distraction method in an attempt to resolve the situation. During the deployment of the distraction devices, the subject retrieved his handgun from the hood of his vehicle, turned it on himself, and discharged the firearm. Colleyville Fire Department Paramedics, who were staged nearby, immediately responded to the scene and rendered aid. CFD Paramedics then transported the subject to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.
We will not be releasing the name of this subject at this time.
