FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GCISD Special Athletics Booster Club will host the Bocce Ball Tournament supporting GCISD Special Olympics.
Grapevine, Texas: Join us for an exciting day of Bocce Ball and a fundraising event for GCISD Special Olympics. The Bocce Championship: GCISD Show-Down is on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The tournament will be at the Grapevine High School MAC at 3223 Mustang Drive, Grapevine, Texas. Visit www.gcisdspecialathletes.wixsite.com/gcisd-special-athlet to learn more.
Teams will compete for the title of Best Bocce Ball Team! The Bocce Ball Tournament is the largest GCISD Special Athletics Booster Club fundraiser supporting our GCISD Special Olympic Student-Athletes. Registered teams will compete against our Special Olympics athletes, GCISD School Resource Officers from the Colleyville and Grapevine Police Departments, GCISD Superintendent Dr. Schnautz, and members of the GCISD Board of Trustees. A Silent Auction will be available to bid on fabulous items, both online and in person. You do not need to be present to win a silent auction item. There will be food and fun for everyone. For those not participating in the tournament, tickets can be purchased at the door.
“I am so excited for the bocce ball tournament that has been added to Special Olympics to be held on April 13, where athletes of all abilities will come together and showcase their talents and build lifelong friendships. I am honored to be the GCISD Special Olympics school board liaison to support events like these that celebrate unity, sportsmanship, and the power of community”.
– GCISD Trustee Tammy Nakamura
The GCISD Special Athletics Booster Club is securing sponsorships and silent auction
donations for the event. Sponsorships vary from $500-$2500. The proceeds will benefit GCISD Special Olympics programs and athletes. All sponsorships include a team of four players. In September 2023, several individuals and businesses from the GCISD community donated funds so the Head of Delegation, Coach Trent Edwards, could purchase three bocce ball courts and ball sets. Thank you to the Tiffany Marie Foundation, Bank of the West, Accent on You Cosmetic Surgery Center and Medi Spa, Steve and Mary Humphrey, Special Strong, JR’s Demolition, Jason Ridley Agency, Dr. Jean Tuggey DDS, Mr. Mike Sartain, Mr. John T. Eubanks, Bermuda Gold and Silver, BioStetics, Nicole Carney, Greenlaw Family, Cacy Tischer, Carolyn Peak, and Pamela Clark Savoie. We are thankful to our most recent bocce ball tournament sponsor, The Narragansett Group.
– Joe King, Chairman and CEO of The Narragansett Group
GCISD Special Olympics Athletes are fierce competitors whose inspiration is contagious! From 4th to 12th grade, our athletes compete in swimming, bowling, basketball, track & field, and now, bocce ball. The GCISD Special Athletics Booster Club is responsible for raising funds to expand our team’s programs, sponsor coaches, and assist in travel expenses for our extraordinary student-athletes.
– Coach Trent Edwards, Head of GCISD Special Olympics Delegation
We thank the Grapevine Engineering CTE students who designed a special ramp for our Special Olympics Bocce Ball student-athletes. The engineering students met with Coach Edwards to learn about the program and considerations for the design of the ramps.
Since 1981, GCISD Special Olympics has inspired student-athletes to be brave. In July 2023, Coach Trent Edwards and Trustee Tammy Nakamura engaged current Special Olympics parents in starting a booster club supporting our athletes, coaches, and programs. The GCISD Special Athletics Booster Club is an official 501(c)3; all donations are tax-deductible.
