COLLEYVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT ACHIEVES STATE REACCREDITATION
Colleyville Police Department Receives “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” award from the Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program
On December 5, 2023, the Colleyville Police Department received the “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” award from the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) Law Enforcement Accreditation Program. The Accreditation Program, which began in 2006, evaluates a Police Department’s compliance with over 170 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These Best Practices were carefully developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of services and the protection of individual’s rights. These Best Practices cover all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations
The Colleyville Police Department was originally accredited by the TPCA Law Enforcement Accreditation Program in 2015. Police agencies accredited by the TPCA must undergo an onsite inspection every fourth year, and this makes the third successful onsite inspection for the Colleyville Police Department.
This voluntary process required the Colleyville Police Department to conduct a critical self-review of the agency’s policies, procedures, facilities and operations. The department conducted the lengthy process to become an “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” by preparing proofs of compliance for each of the Texas Law Enforcement Best Business Practices. Upon completion of the internal review, an outside audit and review was requested. The on-site review is conducted by trained Police Chiefs from other areas of our state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Accreditation Committee for final analysis and decision to award “Accredited” status. This process provided for an independent review of the department’s operations and should assure the citizens of Colleyville that its Police Department is conforming to the current state of the art in law enforcement
On October 17th, the department was notified that it received the coveted “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” award. This makes Colleyville one of 122 TPCA Accredited agencies in the state, and one of only 5 agencies in the nation accredited by both TPCA and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Colleyville Police Department has always considered itself to be one of the best in the state
Colleyville Police Chief, Michael C. Miller, said, “Our community expects exceptional services from its police department, and that is why we voluntarily hold ourselves to the highest standards, not only in the state of Texas, but also nationally. Holding both state and national accreditation shows that Colleyville is a leader in elite company within our industry, and we take our job of delivering the highest quality services to our citizens very seriously.”
The presentation of the award took place at the Colleyville City Council meeting on December 5, 2023. The department will also be recognized at the Texas Police Chiefs Association annual conference in April. More information, and a description of the program, is available on the Texas Police Chiefs Association website at http://www.texaspolicechiefs.org.
