NEWS RELEASE – Grapevine Police arrested a convicted sex offender for a sexual assault that occurred over the weekend. 20-year-old Antony Acosta is booked on three active warrants for Aggravated Sexual Assault, Attempted Sexual Assault and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
On Saturday, November 5, 2022, at approximately 10pm, Grapevine Police were called about a sexual assault that had just occurred at the 29 Fifty Apartments, located at 2950 Mustang Drive. The
victim told officers she was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife, then assaulted her in the parking lot. The man rode off on a bicycle prior to officers’ arrival.During the investigation, officers were able to obtain video of the suspect that helped to positively identify the man as Antony Acosta. Grapevine Police circulated Acosta’s photo through the neighborhood and businesses surrounding the area where the assault occurred. Officers also added extra patrols and security in the area as they actively searched for Acosta.
Grapevine Police officers continued to canvass the area and talked to dozens of residents and acquaintances of Acosta in order to locate him. Their commitment to finding the suspect paid off on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. Shortly before midnight two patrol officers learned of a possible location on Mustang Drive. They were able to confirm he was inside a residence, and were granted permission to go inside. Officers found Acosta hiding in a bathroom. He was taken safely into custody shortly after midnight on Thursday, November 10, 2022.
Acosta is the same man arrested by Grapevine Police, and later prosecuted, after a series of sexual assaults along Mustang Drive in 2019.
Grapevine Police thank the community for their continued support and cooperation during this investigation. These strong community relationships helped officers locate the suspect and keep everyone safe until his arrest.
