Southlake, Texas March 8, 2019
Experienced nurse Gwen Potz-Nielsen and her husband, Stephen Potz-Nielsen, are pleased to announce the launch of their new in-home care business, Home Helpers Home Care of Southlake-Gainesville.
Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Home Helpers of Southlake-Gainesville also offers Direct Link, its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor with GPS locator and an automated medication dispenser. Home Helpers of Southlake–Gainesville serves Lake Kiowa, Gainesville, Era, Sanger, Robson Ranch, Trophy Club, Denton, Keller, Southlake, Roanoke, Ponder, Justin and the surrounding areas.
Gwen is a registered nurse and has over 25 years of experience doing in-home assessments. Stephen, Texas A&M class of ’81, is an airline pilot. Both Stephen and Gwen have experience helping family members in need of some extra care. Stephen’s grandmother had in-home care several years ago and his mother currently has caregivers in assisted living. They also understand the challenges families face when they don’t live nearby or have inconsistent schedules – Gwen is from Canada and they both have family spread across the world. Stephen’s pilot schedule has made it challenging to be there for his family when health issues arise.
“Our primary goal is to help people live safely and independently at home for as long as possible – taking care of you and your family as if they were our own family is our top priority. We understand the challenges individuals and families face, both when they need care and when they are caregivers, and we are here to make lives easier,” Gwen said. “There’s no such thing as someone being ‘just a caregiver.’ Being a caregiver is a vital occupation and we appreciate each and every member of our team. Part of the reason we opened Home Helpers was to provide caregivers with meaningful, rewarding employment with a company that cares.”
Home Helpers specializes in helping families care for their loved ones so they can focus on spending quality time together. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety and comfort of their own homes. The Potz-Nielsens are also encouraging their caregivers to take their clients on outings whenever possible.
“When my mom had care at her home, they would make sure she would eat and take her medicine, but other than that, she just watched a lot of TV. At Home Helpers, when possible, our caregivers want to make sure our clients have the opportunity to get out of the house and do something fun,” Stephen said. “We know that having something to do when you get up in the morning can keep you young and we understand the value of making sure people have the opportunity to stay involved in the community.”
Also unique to Home Helpers, Gwen is excited to provide tuck-in services for people just leaving the hospital or a rehabilitation center. As a nurse, she’s seen people check back into the hospital multiple times simply because they weren’t getting the right care at home.
“It’s scary to be home, especially by yourself, and having someone there to get you settled, get your medicine situated and even go to the grocery for you can make a big difference. I think having that tuck-in service can really help keep people from going back to the hospital because they didn’t have the care they needed after they left the first time. And, if you want us to come back, we match you with a compassionate caregiver,” Gwen said.
Home Helpers Home Care of Southlake-Gainesville offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include personal care such as grooming, bathing, ambulation, medication reminders and care management as well as respite care, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, companionship and transportation.
