Tarrant County residents see a need to increase the number of community health clinics, as well as a strong perceived need to expand the capacity of behavioral health services, according to an in-depth study on the future of health care and how it impacts the John Peter Smith Health Network.
The study, by Health Management Associates (HMA), was conducted over several weeks this winter and will be presented to a citizens’ committee studying the future service and facility needs of the county’s hospital district today at 2:30 p.m. in Room 504C in the Tarrant County Administration Building at 100 E. Weatherford St.
The Citizen’s Blue Ribbon Committee is looking into the future to anticipate changes in population (both demographics and growth), technology and how health care services will be provided over the next 30 years. This is the first of two consulting firms that will make presentations to the committee. A second report will be presented later this year on JPS facilities.
HMA held focus groups with JPS users, spoke with community leaders, interviewed subject matter experts and held four community forum “listening sessions” in various parts of the county to get public input.
Once the citizen’s committee had received the two consultant reports and any other materials it requests, it will make a recommendation to the County Commissioners Court within one year for consideration and action.
