New policies reflect the importance of parents in children’s lives
Today, Fort Worth ISD (FWISD) released revised policies relating to transgender students. The initial policy rollout was met with deserved consternation from local residents as many felt parents were excluded from the process of formulating the policies and were not afforded an opportunity to review or debate the merits of the policies before their adoption. The new policies do much to remedy this concern and reflect the unquestionable importance of the parent’s role in a child’s life. After reviewing the new policies, Sen. Konni Burton released the following statement:
“I would like to commend Superintendent Scribner and the team at Fort Worth ISD for addressing the serious concerns levied by members of the community on how the initial policies minimized, and in some ways outright excluded, parents. And while I am pleased to see that parents are now being treated as part of the solution and not as part of the problem by FWISD, my office is currently reviewing all relevant state laws to ensure that parents in communities across Texas will never again have to fight for their basic right to matter in their child’s life.”
