LNO Note – Just seen your new Tarrant County Appraisal Escalation…which apparently virtually wipes out the new Homestead Exemption? Attend this meeting and protest you new appraisal at Tarrant County Appraisal District
Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has appointed a Select Committee of the Texas Senate to tackle the issue of property tax reform and relief and it’s coming to Arlington! As you know, last session, we increased the Homestead Exemption on local school taxes by $10,000. While I am extremely pleased we were able to provide homeowners some relief, there is still much more to be done to fix the unsustainable system we are currently using.
As my friend and colleague, Sen. Van Taylor has pointed out, the math is simple: according to the Texas Comptroller, between 2005 and 2014, property taxes increased more than two and a half times faster then the median household income. We need real reform; Texans cannot wait.
Here is how you can help! Attend this hearing in Arlington, fill out a witness card, and when called upon to speak, provide public testimony letting the committee members know your personal experience as a homeowner and taxpayer in Texas. The committee needs to hear your voices.
The hearing is April 27th, beginning at 10:00a.m., and will be held at the University of Texas at Arlington (E.H. Hereford University Center, Rosebud Theatre, 300 West First St., Arlington, TX 76019).
Also, please share this information with fellow homeowners. This Select Committee is traveling the state, and we need to make sure citizens know about this opportunity to participate!
