Grapevine, TX April 27, 2016
Rescue Her, in partnership with Traffick 911 and Embrace Grace, is hosting its 4th annual 5k fundraiser, Race2Rescue Foam Edition to raise funds for anti-trafficking efforts.
Race2Rescue will take place Saturday, April 30th from 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM at Bicentennial Park in Southlake, TX. Registration is open to runners and walkers. The cost of the event is $35 for adults and free for kids under 10. It’s a fun event that the whole family can be a part of, while also taking a stand against human trafficking. Following the 5k will be an after-party complete with a DJ, dancing, foam, and food provided by local vendors such as Rita’s Italian Ice, Starbucks, DeVivo Bros Eatery, and Mason and Dixie. There will also be activities for all ages including booths from GamePad MVP and Camp Gladiator.
Funds raised from this event will go towards fighting human trafficking in the DFW area and internationally. There are over 25 million slaves in the world right now, and an estimated 2 million are children. Rescue Her desires to see each person set free. This epidemic exists not only globally but also here at home. National human trafficking hotlines receive more calls from Texas than any other state in the US. In fact, the Dallas-Fort Worth area makes up 15% of those calls. According to the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task force’s 2012 report, Texas’s vast borders and roadways, economy, tourism and agricultural industry make trafficking profitable here.
Rescue Her founder Josie Carignan understood the magnitude of human trafficking yet felt inadequate to make a difference. Carignan finally realized that she could not help everyone, but she could rescue one, and then another and another. Rescue Her was born. Now Rescue Her exists to take a stand against injustice, be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves, and help rescue those that are held captive. We raise awareness about human trafficking, fight for justice, and are a place that allows those who want to take action to do so.
