Bizzi’s Bistro
by Deandra Wilson, Lifestyle and Entertainment
For the past four years I have driven by this sign – “Bizzi’s”, it’s tucked away on northside of Harwood road right next to the Auto Zone. For you regulars of Bedford, it is between Norwood Drive and Brown Trail, past Half Priced Books.
When I learned from my blog friends, that it is a Modern American Wine Bistro. I went online to check it out.
After reading their reviews (nothing, but 4 stars!) and looking at their menu, I knew I had to go!
Walking into Bizzi’s, I felt at home. The way it’s designed makes you feel so comfortable. Looking at the pictures online, I thought, “This has to be one of those up-scale, fancy restaurants, with its white table clothes and wine racks on the wall (filled with wine),” but,NO! It was casual and laid back, built more for privacy and coziness. I loved the atmosphere, it is so quaint and intimate
I was welcomed by Veronika, the manager who has been here ever since the two months after the restaurant opened in June of 2011. We sat down for a chat so I could understand what makes Bizzi’s special and to get some of their history.
Bizzi’s is a family owned restaurant, the owners live in Bedford, and knew exactly what Bedford was missing – a restaurant, like one of those you find on Main Street in Grapevine, but built for the locals instead of the tourist trade. “In the know” locals can now say, “I know a little place, off the beaten path where we can go.”
When they first opened the focus was wine and cheese, but they soon expanded to a broader menu with everything cooked from scratch.
Their varied menu now includes everything from Beef Wellington (their most popular dish), to duck pate, pork belly, pesto alfredo, salmon, and even meatloaf! And I must remind you, everything is made in fresh and in-house, with daily visits to the Bedford Farmer’s Market next store.
They recently won the Taste of the Northeast, which was an event held in Hurst. They competed against other restaurants here in Northeast Tarrant County. There was a panel of Mayors from all around Northeast Tarrant County, and they all agreed that Bizzi’s Bistro was the winner!
Michael, the bar manager, is a Level 1 Sommelier (which means he’s the wine expert’s, wine expert), told me that they have over 200 bottles of wine and 10 kinds of beer! He said, “We are striving to make our customers happy.”
They have a wine tasting event every month, which unfortunately for me occurred the day before my visit. Veronika said they’re planning to have more weekly events next year!
I was eager to taste their food and it was now time for a sampling. Veronika brought out a “mini” cheese plate that included their Special Cheese of the Month, an Italian Piave, and a Mustard Seed Gouda. The plate included a delicious orange marmalade dipping sauce (made in house), and small slices of French toast, with some white wine, (of course). It was absolute perfection!
Michael and Veronika were a treat to talk to, the restaurant is just perfectly cozy and intimate and the cheeses are amazing.
Be sure and try Bizzi’s Bistro at 313 Harwood Rd #101, Bedford, TX 76021 they are open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 in the morning until 9 in the evening, and Saturday 5 to 9 in the evening. I’m sure you’ll be well pleased. It is the perfect environment for a night out with the family, “date night”, or if you just want to relax at their wine bar.
