Those who oppose a Colleyville “Rural Feel” vision must be giddy over the Star-Telegram Editorial Endorsement on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. To quote the Editorial; “Colleyville can no longer afford to cling to its horse-farms-and-feed-stores history. Business growth should be Colleyville’s goal, or else residents will face shouldering the entire cost of city services.”
So residents of Colleyville there you have it; this newspaper that has fired about ½ of their staff because they remained stuck in the past world print while digital passed them by… is now telling you what your vision for the city should be.
The Editorial Staff (Bud Kennedy) cleverly omits the fact that none of Colleyville’s new businesses have any locations available along Glade Road which is dominated by residential on both the north and south side of the road.
Further, before you put too much credence in the ST Editorial, just remember this is the same newspaper that endorsed Wendy Davis and Libby Willis for our Senatorial District 10.
So now this newspaper, with virtually no actual press coverage of our community, but counting on their local insider snitch, Councilman and perennial candidate Mike Taylor; (LNO May 20, 2005,“Shortly before Mr. Taylor lost another election for City Council on May 7, 2005, at a gathering of his supporters, Taylor was quoted as having said “I have the ear of the Star-Telegram and he would use it to clean up matters at city hall.”)
So ST is making a seemingly “non-partisan” recommendation. But wait, what does a little exploration of the players in the VOTE NO on Glade Road Proposition tell us about the leaders of the Coplen and Taylor election efforts, along with the NO Vote on Prop 1 ?
First let’s take a look at these omnipresent VOTE NO signs that are all over town. We have found some landowners that have been mislead into placing these “No Signs” initially and ask them to be removed.

The past two City Managers of Colleyville, Bob Stripling and Bill Lindley have previously advised that no sitting councilmember should become publicly involved in a citizens initiated vote such as a Bond election. Certainly the same sort of ethical constraints would be in play on a citizen’s initiated Proposition.However, that is apparently not the case with the current City Council as Tom Hart, Chuck Mogged, Jody Short and Mike Taylor have all taken public positions and some have become very active in their attempt not to lose control to the citizenry. Further, the “Make Glade Road A Safe Road” is bogus with a solution looking for a problem. There is NO evidence that Glade Road has previously presented a safety problem. In a further attempt to advance his stated position that those who might have some issues with the TEX Rail commuter rails are “Loons”, Kennedy brings up that Nancy Coplen’s opponent Liz Zeitlin states, “homeowner complaints are going unheard about the Fort Worth-based TEX Rail…” What about Coplen’s position Mr. Kennedy? Just for those who like to have some facts about this situation, Forbes Magazine stated in the February issue the following: “The Highway Trust Fund will run out of money in May. This is easy to swat down. The fund was created in the 1950s to build and maintain the Interstate Highway System. Federal levies on vehicular fuels were supposed to be truly dedicated monies, but since then — Washington being Washington–the fund has been plundered to fiance mass-transit systems, hiking trails and all sorts of other things. Take out all the non-highway stuff and voila. The Highway Trust Fund is virtually balanced.”So maybe it is time that someone pay attention to this problem! Massive transit boondoggles have broken the Highway Trust funds to fix roads and bridges in favor of these systems typically wrapped in corruption and benefitting a pitiful few financially; usually the politician or family thereof. How many citizens of Colleyville want 50 to 60 high speed rail trains through town every day, plus a heavy load of freight trains?Concerning the glowing endorsement of perennial candidate Mike Taylor who argues against the proposition and for keeping sovereignty over a city road, of course, that was Taylor’s statement to Kennedy, tomorrow he could just as easily be on the other side. However, one thing consistent about Taylor, he lays claim to being a conservative but always supports the government solutions. Is Taylor the best Colleyville can do? Attempting to dominate Colleyville politics since 1997, isn’t 18 years long enough?Besides Taylor hardly has time to take care of the concerns of Colleyville with all of his Regional Government commitments and his “extra curricular” activities. |

| After last year’s attempt at partisan politics on behalf of defeated Councilman Stan Hall; is there a repeat performance behind the scenes trying to effect this year’s City Council Race? It has been somewhat curious that well-known Democrat Colleyville operatives Louis Miller (Mom was former Democrat State Rep) and Jim Fletcher, have become so fanatical in their support of Candidates Coplen and Taylor and their effort to block the citizen initiative with a NO Vote in favor of Colleyville “Big” government proponents. Louis Miller is a frequent speaker at Colleyville City Council.Miller has continued to openly oppose the Glade Road citizens driven initiative.One of his most frequent comments is that he likes the “Civility” shown by this city council, unlike the days when a Police Officer had to be at City Council Meetings (note that a Colleyville Police officer has attended city council meetings for at least 25 years).However, Mr. Miller’s “civility” apparently does not extend to him and his current political views. Note the Colleyville Lions Club is an exceptional organization that has performed in outstanding fashion to support charities and public service. However, the Lions Club has a Cardinal Rule, NO POLITICKING is endorsed.In his fervor, Mr. Miller has apparently lost touch with the “civility” he so often espouses.
